Regular Flu and Swine Flu Precautions

As you have been hearing on the news, there are some Swine Flu cases in the United States, but none reported in Illinois, of which we are aware.  Our schools and nursing staff always encourage good health habits at all times.  Please review this “health alert information”  from DuPage County Public Health, and be sure to have your family follow the recommendations.  It’s always important to be proactive with wellness practices.

Clubs, Schools Promoting Conservation

“Green” is growing throughout the Elmwood Park Community Unit School District 401 schools. Conservation is an important focus throughout the district. Students, administrators, staff and teachers are increasing their awareness of conservation activities that improve the environment at home and at school. Science Clubs at the high school, Mills and Elmwood School are furthering students’ knowledge while engaging the students in “green” activities. At John Mills School, conservation is always in the forefront. Thirty second and third-graders belong to “Einstein Explorers,” led by teachers Elizabeth Durkin and Deanna Crum. Students in this club use the scientific model to ask questions and learn about the world around them through investigation. They are furthering their understanding of conservation by studying topics related to energy and the environment including magnetic energy, weather, heat energy, simple machines and wind energy. This expands upon many conservation projects these students participated in last year. Club members and students throughout Mills School are learning ways to conserve.
