The Early Childhood Center recently hosted Chicago-area puppeteer Dave Herzog, who performed two marionette variety shows for our students — one in the morning and the other in the afternoon. The shows took place Monday, Nov. 20, in the ECC all-purpose room, and they featured marionettes (string-controlled puppets) that Mr. Herzog hand-carved himself.
Mr. Herzog used a pirate theme for the shows, which consisted of cabaret-style singing and dancing by a host of colorful marionettes adorned in classic pirate-era costumes. The shows also included circus-style acts in which marionettes walked a tight rope, swung on a trapeze and performed a juggling act.
ECC Principal Ms. Joanne Mourikes Rice introduced Mr. Herzog before the start of each show. Afterward, students had a chance to tour backstage and look at the marionettes up close.
The shows were made possible by ECC's Parent-Teacher Organization. Thanks to Mr. Herzog for his wonderful creations, and thanks to everyone in the PTO who helped organize the events!
