Elm Middle School's 7th- and 8th-grade band students perform together at three concerts throughout the school year:
► A winter concert in December along with the Elm Concert Choir
► A District 401 band festival in late February or early March with D401's other school bands
► A spring concert in May along with the Elm Concert Choir
About the Class
Band meets as a class every other day for 85 minutes, with occasional after-school sectional rehearsals as well.
The class is typically taken by students with prior band experience in elementary school.
While in 6th grade, students are asked if they intend to continue in band when they reach middle school. If the answer is yes, they will be assigned to the 7th-grade band class.
Students can expect to learn basic fundamentals on their instruments and perform weekly playing tests on material from the Essential Elements books.
Band is a two-year commitment. Students taking the class in 7th and 8th grade will not be able to take any other elective during their time at Elm.
Elm's Band Director
Mr. Kyle Rhoades teaches the band elective and directs Elm’s Concert Band.
