Elmwood Elementary School students held a "Hats for Houston" fundraiser on Friday, Sept. 1, for Hurricane Harvey relief efforts. By donating $1 or more, any student was permitted to wear a hat indoors. The result? Students raised a grand total of $1,077 for the American Red Cross!
The idea came from Ms. Jamie Kanas's 4th-grade class. Student Council approved it, and within days the idea became a reality with the backing of Principal Mr. Kevin Seibel and Assistant Principal Ms. Kimberly Wright.
"It was amazing to see how many students were wearing their hats in support of those affected by Hurricane Harvey," Ms. Wright said. "We believe it is a great life lesson to teach children to help those in need any way that they can. Thank you to all of those who participated!"
