More than 20 colleges and universities were on hand Friday, Oct. 6, for Elmwood Park High School's 2017 College Fair. The event took place in the school's South Gym and was open to EPHS seniors and juniors.
"The goal of the college fair was to help our students with their college choices," said EPHS counselor Mr. Anthony Poro.
"Our students have many responsibilities and extracurricular activities going on right now, and they may not have been able to go visit the colleges to which they are applying," Mr. Poro continued. "The college fair gave them an opportunity to speak with the representatives from schools to help make their college decisions when the time comes."
Participating Colleges and Universities
The EPHS Counseling Office invited representatives from colleges and universities that have traditionally received numerous applications from Elmwood Park students. As a result, students could meet with representatives from the following institutions:
► Aurora University
► Columbia College Chicago
► Concordia University Chicago
► DePaul University
► Dominican University
► Eastern Illinois University
► Elmhurst College
► Illinois College
► Illinois Institute of Technology
► Illinois Wesleyan University
► Monmouth College
► Northern Illinois University
► Northern Michigan University
► Robert Morris University Illinois
► Roosevelt University
► Saint Xavier University
► Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville
► Triton College
► Universal Technical Institute
► University of Illinois at Chicago
► University of Illinois at Springfield
► University of Wisconsin System
► Western Illinois University
"The representatives were impressed with how well prepared our students were for the fair," Mr. Poro said. "The Counseling Office put together a lesson plan for the seniors, and their Academic Lab teachers gave the lesson to them the day before the event. Our students enjoyed the schools that attended because a majority of seniors are applying to those schools."
The Rest of the Year
Although this was the only college fair that EPHS will host during 2017-18, many college representatives will make individual visits to the school during the next several months.
In the meantime, thanks to the Counseling Office for organizing this year's fair and to the college representatives who participated. Good luck to our seniors as they embark on the college application process!
