The Elmwood Park High School Choir Program's 2017 Holiday Concert took place Wednesday, Dec. 13.

The show featured performances by the school's Chorale, Concert Choir and Swing Choir under the direction of Mr. Michael Popplewell, who heads the choir programs at both EPHS and Elm Middle School.

Ms. Jessica Iovinelli provided accompaniment on the piano. She also played electric bass on a number by the Chorale, joined by Danny Butler on shaker.

Students introduced each song, occasionally reading from notes on their smartphones.

A Diversity of Holiday Numbers

The show opened with "Wana Baraka" by the Combined Concert & Swing Choirs. Chorale members then performed "Jazz Gloria," "How Like a Winter" and "Wassail Song."

Concert Choir members took the stage for "Star of Bethlehem" (with senior Sarah Coleman on flute) and "It Sings in Me." The Combined Concert & Swing Choirs returned for Daniel Elder's "Lullaby."

This was followed by the Swing Choir's rendition of "Carol of the Bells," "O Come, O Come Emmanuel" (opening incipit by senior Roneth Pineda), "The World for Christmas" (opening duet by seniors Sofia Muñoz and Valeria Lazu), "Cantique de Noel (O Holy Night)" (solos by senior Justin Nieves and junior Grace Rajendran) and "Joy to the World."

As the lights dimmed, EPHS alumni were then invited to the stage to join the Combined Choirs in singing "Silent Night."

Thanks to everybody who filled the EPHS auditorium in support of our amazing student musicians!
