Below are descriptions of the foreign language courses offered at Elm Middle School. 

Introduction to Spanish

Grade level: 6

This course is filled with a variety of interactive language activities geared to 6th-grade students. They will begin their introduction to Spanish by focusing on four key areas: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Students will become familiar with common vocabulary terms and phrases, participate in simple conversations, respond appropriately to basic questions, and analyze and compare cultural practices, products and perspectives of various Spanish-speaking countries

Introduction to Spanish

Grade Level: 7

This course is filled with a variety of interactive language activities geared to 7th-grade students. They will begin their introduction to Spanish by focusing on four key areas: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Students will become familiar with common vocabulary terms and phrases, participate in simple conversations, respond appropriately to basic questions, and analyze and compare cultural practices, products and perspectives of various Spanish-speaking countries

Spanish I

Grade level: 8

Emphasis is placed on developing each student's listening and speaking skills. These skills are developed through conversations and daily oral and written work. In addition to speaking and understanding the language on an elementary level, the students who successfully complete the course will also be able to compose simple paragraphs employing present and preterite tenses and read basic selections with comparative ease. Throughout the year various aspects of the culture are also discussed.

Although Spanish I is not an accelerated course, this is a first-year high school class that will earn high school credit for Elm students upon successful completion.
