Virtual Multicultural Night
Congratulations to everyone who contributed to our Virtual Multicultural Night 2020!
The following video compiles more than 200 entries from our families in District 401. The video shows how diverse we are as a community and how proud we should be of our cultures!
About the Virtual Event
Each year District 401 hosts a Multicultural Night to honor the cultures that make up our community.
The 2020 celebration was originally scheduled to be held May 13 at Elmwood Park High School. But due to Gov. Pritzker's stay-at-home order in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the in-person event was canceled.
In its place, our EL team put together a way that we could celebrate remotely with our first-ever Virtual Multicultural Night. Students of all grade levels were asked to talk about their heritage and to contribute photos or videos illustrating different aspects of their cultures, such as language, clothing, flags, holidays and food.
Using SeeSaw or Google Classroom, students submitted their contributions by May 11. The EL team then incorporated many of these items into the event's featured video (see above). The video was shared with the District 401 community on May 15.
Thank you again to everyone who made this first-ever event such a success — parents, teachers and most of all our students!
