About the Early Childhood Center

NOTE ABOUT ECC: The Early Childhood Center will close permanently on June 30, 2020. Beginning with the 2020-21 school year, pre-kindergarten students will attend John Mills School. Kindergarten students will attend either Mills or Elmwood School.

Welcome to the Early Childhood Center, home of the Extra Caring Cubs!

Located in the Near West Chicago suburb of Elmwood Park, Ill., the ECC educates preschool and kindergarten students as part of Elmwood Park Community Unit School District 401.

The Journey Begins Here

We are the District’s only school devoted to pre-K and K education.

In preschool (ages 3 or 4), children play with other children and learn to listen to the teacher. Children usually attend a few hours a day for five days per week.

If children are 5 years old on or before Sept. 1, they can go to kindergarten. Children do not have to go to kindergarten, but most do. They attend class Monday through Friday. Most classes are half a day, and one is full day.
