District 401 is offering residents the opportunity to bring their preschool-age children to the Early Childhood Center for a free preschool screening.

To be eligible for a screening, children must be at least 3 years old during the 2020-21 school year and no more than 5 years old as of Sept. 1, 2020.

What's a Preschool Screening?

The purpose of the screening is to identify children who may benefit from a range of programs and services provided to preschoolers in District 401. (Reminder: All preschool students will be taught at John Mills Elementary School beginning in August 2020.)

Children who participate in the screening complete a series of activities to assess their level of development and readiness for school.

Each child will be evaluated in the areas of language, speech, English proficiency, social skills, motor skills and cognitive skills. A hearing and vision screening is also included.

The complete screening will take approximately 45 minutes.
