Courses
CHOIR |
Grade Level: 6-8 |
Choir can be taken either during study hall as an elective or as a 6th/7th/8th-grade class. Concepts studied will include: note reading, rhythm, solfeggio and proper vocal production. Elm choirs will present three to four concerts a year, including performances in the community and the EPHS auditorium. Extracurricular commitments also include the opportunity to perform solos and audition for contests.
GENERAL MUSIC |
Grade Level: 6-8 |
General music classes will include units on music note recognition by letter and rhythm, music history time periods, composers, instruments of the band and orchestra, as well as current and popular genres.
BAND |
Grade Level: 6-8 |
Prerequisite: Students must already play an approved instrument and have participated in Band 6, or approval of instructor and administration. Please see the band handbook for greater detail and required course materials.
Band 6-8 will meet daily. Required sectional rehearsals occur after school on a rotating basis, and students will perform in three required concerts throughout the year. Eighth graders will perform two additional times with the EPHS marching and pep bands as well. Students will learn musical concepts such as tone, production, articulation, technique, rhythm, pitch, elements of music, theory, blend, balance, intonation, listening and working with others. This course is a yearlong commitment and does not allow for schedule changes.
