A place in Elm Middle School's Spanish program is offered by invitation only. Invitations go out based on standardized test scores and prior performance in school. Students must have superior reading and writing skills and excellent homework habits to be invited.

Our curriculum is aligned to the Illinois Learning Standards for World Languages.

Spanish is an academically intensive class in which students cover the equivalent of one year of high school Spanish during their two years at Elm.

Students who earn an A or a B throughout both years can qualify to be recommended for entry directly into Spanish 2 at Elmwood Park High School as freshmen.

Taking Spanish at Elm is a two-year commitment, and no other electives can be taken during middle school. Because the class is an elective, students alternate every other day with physical education / health.
