Arts & Student Life

ELM SUMMER UPDATE: Effective July 1, 2020, Elm Middle School will include District 401's 6th graders. The Elm website will be updated during the summer to reflect this change. The first day of classes for the 2020-21 school year is Monday, Aug. 31, 2020.

At Elm Middle School, learning doesn’t stop when students leave their classrooms.

That’s why we offer students multiple opportunities to pursue their interests and develop their skills in a variety of areas outside of their formal academic schedule.

The Arts at Elm

In Elm’s vibrant art scene, budding visual artists receive expert guidance as they work on projects after school in the company of fellow art lovers.

On the performance side, student musicians take part in concerts several times a year under the leadership of virtuoso band and choir directors.

Student Life at Elm

Organizations like Math Club, Robotics, Crypto Club and Scholastic Bowl challenge students intellectually and encourage friendly competition, while groups like the Cougar Leadership Council and National Junior Honor Society put a premium on service and giving back to the community.

Curriculum-based field trips offer students a different perspective on subjects they learn about in class. Awards assemblies recognize students for their hard work, speaker assemblies expose students to important views worth discussing, and special events like Civil War Day and Diversity Day liven up the halls of Elm with invigorating breaks from the daily routine.

Oh, and there’s fun stuff like dances, too!
