Elm Middle School's cross country teams ended their 2017 season as the Leyden-Norwood Athletic Conference runners-up in both the girls and boys 7th/8th-grade divisions.

The teams placed second overall in their respective races at the conference tournament, which took place Wednesday, Oct. 4, at Schiller Woods East.

This is the second consecutive year both teams have won conference trophies for finishing as runners-up or champions. In 2016, the boys placed first and the girls second.

For the girls, this is the third straight year the team has won a trophy. In 2015, the girls finished second.

Besides earning team trophies this year, Elm runners also took home a number of individual honors. Three Elm girls received medals:

► Julia Wronska, 4th place
► Allison Scheidt, 5th place
► Olivia Dombek, 10th place

Three Elm boys also received medals for their individual finishes:

► Kevin Michalik, 6th place
► Wojtek Winiarczyk, 8th place
► George Gauthier, 11th place

Ms. Meg Walsh served as head coach for both teams, and Ms. Clare Thomas was assistant coach. Congratulations to the entire team for a great season, and thanks to everyone who came out to support the runners!
