Faculty and administration set up stations through which students rotated from approximately 10:30 a.m. to noon. At each station, students learned the school's expectations about behavior in a variety of settings — in hallways, bathrooms, cafeteria, classrooms, assemblies, buses and club activities/sports. This was in keeping with Elm's role as a PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support) school.
Students also got a chance to meet their new building leaders: Principal Ms. Rebecca Siegel and Assistant Principal Ms. Ashley Groeneveld. Ms Siegel is in her second year at Elm, having served last year as the school's AP. Ms. Groeneveld is in her first year at Elm, having taught physical education at The Skokie School in Winnetka Public Schools District 36 for the previous five years.
