PHOTO: Elm students head toward a session on behavioral expectations as the first day of school begins. District 401 photo by Dave Porreca (click photo to enlarge image).
The following photos were taken at Elm Middle School on Wednesday, Aug. 14, as District 401 began the 2019-20 school year. Despite a summer of renovation work inside the existing building and current expansion work outside it, the transition to a new year went smoothly!
Much of Elm's first morning was devoted to an introduction to expectations about positive student behavior. Faculty and administration set up stations through which students rotated from approximately 9:30 to 11 a.m.
At each station, students learned the school's expectations about behavior in a variety of settings — in hallways, bathrooms, cafeteria, classrooms, assemblies and buses. Students also learned expectations governing their use of Chromebooks, a session that was led in the gym by Assistant Principal Ashley Groeneveld.
The morning rotation was in keeping with Elm's role as a PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support) school. Good luck to all as the new school year gets underway!
