NOTE: Elm Principal Ms. Rebecca Siegel sent the following letter to 8th-grade parents on Thursday, March 21. To read a PDF copy of the letter, please click here.

Dear Parents of the Class of 2019,

The end of the school year is coming fast, and we are starting to prepare for all activities associated with the culmination of your student's middle school years.

The following dates and information may prove helpful in your planning for the final weeks of the 2018-19 school year.

Dinner Dance

The Elm PAT sponsors the 8th-grade dinner dance at Elmcrest Banquets, which will be held Tuesday, May 21. Detailed information and permission slips will be distributed after spring break.

The cost will be between $40 or $65 depending on which option you choose. Payments are due by Wednesday, May 1.

Yearbooks must be pre-ordered no later than Friday, March 22. The cost is $25 and is payable on Lifetouch's website at ybpay.lifetouch.com using yearbook code 1810118, or at the District webstore by credit or debit card.

If you would prefer not to pay online, your student may bring in cash or a check made out to "Elm Middle School."

Please have your student check with Ms. McNichols to verify that there is a record of your yearbook purchase. Yearbooks will be distributed the week of Monday, May 13.

PAT Breakfast for 8th Graders

The PAT will provide breakfast for 8th-grade students on Wednesday, May 22. Academic advisers will take their students to the cafeteria for a light breakfast.

Graduation Practice

We will have graduation practice on Wednesday. Eighth-grade students will have an early dismissal after a successful practice.

Students can walk from Elm, or buses will drop students off at Elmwood Elementary and John Mills Elementary for them to walk home from there.

More information about the time and other details will be sent home in May. Students must be in attendance at practice in order to participate in the graduation ceremony.

Graduation Photographs

We have arranged to have photographs taken by Lifetouch professional photographers at the time the diploma is awarded.

A proof will be available on Lifetouch's website. At that time, you may choose the photo package that you want. More information will be provided in May.

Graduation Tickets

Graduation is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, at Elm Middle School.

Each family will be given four tickets for the graduation ceremony. These tickets will be distributed on May 22 once we have determined who will be promoted to 9th grade.

Elm Middle School is unable to provide extra tickets for graduation. Every person, including children and babies, must have a ticket to be seated in the gymnasium.

Please note that all financial obligations to District 401 must be paid before your student will receive graduation tickets. These obligations include:

  • School fees
  • Field trip fees
  • Library fines
  • All fees for lost or damaged books and other fees owed to the school
