The events were for students 5 to 11 years old, who received their first dose of the Pfizer COVID vaccine.
They will receive their second dose in early December, also at Elmwood and John Mills.
Both schools used their gyms for the first-dose events, which took place Nov. 10 at Elmwood and Nov. 11 at John Mills.
Staff from Positive Health Services were on hand to administer the vaccine. After receiving their shot, each youngster waited for 15 minutes to ensure there were no side effects. To make the wait as fun as possible, big-screen TVs played kids programming in both gyms.
Second doses of the vaccine will be given at Elmwood and John Mills on the following dates:
► ELMWOOD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL (Event Flyer)
- Second dose: Dec. 1, 2021 (3:15 to 5:15 p.m.)
► JOHN MILLS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL (Event Flyer)
- Second dose: Dec. 2, 2021 (3:15 to 5:15 p.m.)
Please note that a parent MUST be present for their student to receive a vaccination.
As with District 401's previous vaccination clinics, Positive Health Services will conduct the second-dose events in partnership with the Cook County Department of Public Health.
Use of the vaccine for children ages 5 through 11 years was authorized Oct. 29 by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
The Illinois Department of Public Health announced Nov. 3 that it had adopted the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's recommendation for immediate administration of the Pfizer vaccine for children 5 to 11 years old.
