State Report Cards

Illinois Report Card logoEvery year the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) releases report cards that show how the state's public school districts and individual public schools have performed on a wide range of educational goals.

This is done in compliance with Section 10-17a of the Illinois School Code.

Report cards for all Illinois public schools and districts can be found at:

As noted below in "Changes in the Report Cards," the 2021 Illinois Report Cards have multiple release dates. Oct. 29, 2021, was the initial release date, which covered the release of metrics that did not include assessment data.

The second release date was Dec. 2, 2021, which covered the release of preliminary metrics that relied on assessment data from spring 2021, including IAR and SAT results.

The third release date was April 27, 2022, in which finalized data was released for those who completed spring and/or fall assessment testing:

Changes in the Report Cards

As explained below, the 2021 Illinois Report Cards differ from those of previous years in several important respects.

In previous years, all data and metrics for schools and districts were released at the same time, usually in late October. But because of the COVID pandemic, data was released over multiple dates during the 2021-22 school year.

FIRST DATE: The initial release of the Illinois Report Card took place on Oct. 29, 2021. This release includes all metrics that do not rely on assessment data.

SECOND DATE: On Dec. 2, 2021, the following preliminary data was released to the Report Card for districts that completed spring assessment testing:

  • IAR
  • SAT
  • Participation Rates (IAR, SAT, and Illinois Science Assessment [ISA])
  • College and Career Ready

THIRD DATE: On April 27, 2022, the following finalized data was released to the Report Card for those who completed spring and/or fall assessment testing:

  • IAR
  • SAT
  • Dynamic Learning Maps Alternate Assessment (DLM-AA)
  • Participation Rates (IAR, SAT, DLM-AA, and ISA)
  • College and Career Ready

The following metrics were not reported on the SY 2021 Report Card:

  • Illinois Science Assessment
  • IAR — Growth Percentile
  • Summative Designation
  • Early Learning (KIDS)

Illinois has four summative designations: Exemplary School, Commendable School, Targeted School, and Comprehensive School. Multiple measures of school performance and growth determine a school’s designation.

Accountability for the 2020-21 school year was waived; therefore, summative designations will not be calculated for 2021.

Schools that have been previously identified for support will maintain that support status, but no 2021 annual summative designation will be reported. Instead the following message will be displayed on the Illinois Report Card for each school and district:

Summative Designations: 2021 Not Calculated

Prior to COVID, all four of District 401's schools received "Commendable School" as their summative designation. A commendable school is one that has no underperforming student groups, has a graduation rate greater than 67 percent, and whose performance is not in the top 10 percent of schools statewide.

Starting with school year 2020-21, the Illinois Report Card will include a new reporting feature that replaces both the At-a-Glance reports and the Classic PDF reports going forward.

This new feature, titled “Custom Report Card Builder,” will allow users to select for themselves which data points to include on the screen or print output from nearly the entire range of data available on the interactive Report Card site.

At-a-Glance and Classic PDF reports will still be available in the archives for 2019-20 and prior.
