The first day of school at Elmwood Elementary School on Wednesday, Aug. 15, was busy for students and parents both! After waiting outside for the doors to open, students followed their teachers inside the building to begin the school year. Meanwhile, their parents went to the cafeteria, where they received an overview of the 2018-19 school year from Principal Mr. Matthew Lerner and Assistant Principal Ms. Stephanie Hagins. Parents then visited their children's classrooms as students entered the gym for the opening-day assembly featuring magic storyteller Chris McBrien. Using his skills as a ventriloquist along with plenty of humor, Mr. McBrien presented an uplifting message about bullying prevention and respectful behavior.
The good feelings from the first morning of school didn't stop there, according to Mr. Lerner. "Our first week was amazing," he said. "After our parent meeting I had many parents excited about the direction of the school and District. We are going to continue to build upon the momentum of the first week of school. We are looking forward to an amazing year."
