With a theme of "Wild West — Saddle Up and Read!," the fair will be located in the main hallway outside Elmwood's main office and will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The fair will also be open during an ice cream social and "family read" night at the school from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3.
Besides being free, the ice cream social is ideal for parents who want to shop with their children but who can't leave work during the day.
Support Reading — and Our School
During the weeklong fair, the hallway area will take on the look and feel of a Wild West-themed bookstore. Mobile cases will be filled with affordable volumes featuring characters and subjects elementary-age children enjoy and want to read about.
If you've never been to a book fair, it's a great opportunity to buy books for your children while supporting Elmwood at the same time.
"Books are always a great gift to give kids," said PATT president Michela Shipinski. "The money we earn from selling the books provides us with a credit in 'Scholastic Dollars,' which are used to purchase books and other things for the library and school. All the proceeds go right back to the school."
Partnership with Scholastic
The PATT organizes Elmwood's book fairs in conjunction with Scholastic, the educational publishing company. This year's PATT book fair chairperson is Radwa Saker.
"Scholastic is the company that provides all the supplies and books we need to host this book fair," said Ms. Shipinski.
The company also provides a "toolkit" for the chairperson to use. Additional support comes via a Scholastic-supplied consultant who can be contacted with questions.
Elmwood will host another Scholastic Book Fair in the spring. In the meantime, be sure to come out to the Oct. 2-6 fair and participate in what's become a great Elmwood PATT tradition.
And if you need extra motivation, check out these photos of Ms. Sandra Katsantones' 2nd graders and Ms. Mary Vravosinos' 3rd graders demonstrating their own love of reading. See you at the fair!
