Kindergarten & Preschool Enrollment


District 401 offers full-day and half-day kindergarten as well as half-day preschool.

Enrollment in kindergarten for the 2021-22 school year is open to all Elmwood Park children who will be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2021.

Enrollment in preschool for the 2021-22 school year is open to Elmwood Park children who will be at least 3 years old during the school year and no more than 5 years old as of Sept. 1, 2021.

How to Enroll in Kindergarten


All kindergarten students in District 401 attend one of our two elementary schools:

Families have the option of full-day or half-day kindergarten.

As a kindergarten student, your child will attend either John Mills Elementary (north of the tracks) or Elmwood Elmwood (south of the tracks). Please begin your child's enrollment process by contacting your building secretary:

Full-Day Kindergarten in District 401


When you begin the enrollment process, you will be asked whether you want to enroll your child in full-day or half-day kindergarten. The full-day program is offered at both of our elementary schools: John Mills (north of the railroad tracks) and Elmwood (south of the tracks).

How to Enroll in Preschool


As a preschool student, your child will attend John Mills Elementary School, which is the only District 401 school that offers pre-K instruction. Please begin the enrollment process by contacting the John Mills building secretary:

Preschool entry screenings are conducted annually in preparation for the next school year. The purpose of the preschool screening is to identify children who may benefit from a range of programs and services provided to preschoolers in our District.
