Dear Parents/Guardians,

On Jan. 24, 2013, then-Governor Quinn signed into effect Public Act 097-1147, also known as Erin’s Law. This law requires child sexual abuse prevention education for children in pre-kindergarten through 12th grades. District 401 will be implementing these lessons during the 2020-21 school year. This information is disseminated to students during health and PE classes.

The Student Services administration and the District social workers worked together to develop age-appropriate presentations for our students. Ninth through the 12th-grade curriculum will focus on personal body safety, making healthy choices, sexual harassment, interpersonal relationships and identifying trusted adults. Lessons will occur within your student’s health class at various points throughout the school year.

The District realizes this is a sensitive topic; therefore, please contact your student’s dean in writing by 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 16, if you do not want your student to participate in these lessons.

In order to learn more about the content of these lessons, please join us for a virtual information session for parents and guardians from 6 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 14. We will review what will be presented in the classrooms and how this information will be shared and discussed for the various ages and grade levels.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your student's building administrator.

Thank you,

Mr. Douglas J. Wildes
Elmwood Park High School
