UPDATE FOR RETURNING STUDENTS (posted May 4, 2020): Enrollment for all 2020-21 returning students is now open. Parents of returning students should email their residency information to registration@epcusd401.org. They should then go into the parent portal of PowerSchool to sign the AUP, handbook and photo consent forms. All District 401 students, whether new or returning, must enroll in the District each school year. The enrollment process is also known as "registration." This three-step process involves:

► Proof of residency
► Payment of school fees
► Submission of consent forms — Acceptable Use, Photo Release, District Policies

Our enrollment procedures are governed by Section 7:50 of the Board of Education's District Policy Manual.


Overview for 2020-21 Enrollment


Kindergarten (K) and preschool (PK3 & PK4) enrollment for 2020-21 is underway:

New students in grades 1-12 may begin their 2020-21 enrollment on May 1, 2020. For details, please visit our Enrollment for New/Transfer Students page. Students in grades 1-12 are considered new for 2020-21 if they did not attend a District 401 school in 2019-20.

Returning students in grades 1-12 may begin their 2020-21 enrollment on May 4, 2020. For details, please visit our Enrollment for Returning Students page. Students in grades 1-12 are considered returning for 2020-21 if they did attend a District 401 school in 2019-20.

District 401 public schools serve residents of Elmwood Park only. You must prove residency to enroll your child in one of our four schools.

Beginning in August 2020:

► Grades 9-12 attend Elmwood Park High School.
► Grades 6-8 attend Elm Middle School.
► Grades K-5 south of the tracks attend Elmwood Elementary School.
► Grades K-5 north of the tracks attend John Mills Elementary School.
► Grades PK3 & PK4 (preschool) attend John Mills Elementary School.

The first day of school for 2020-21 is Monday, Aug. 31, 2020


If You Are Homeless


Any homeless child shall be immediately admitted to District 401, even if the child or child's parent/guardian is unable to produce records normally required to establish residency.

District 401's liaison for homeless children is Dr. Kari Smith, Assistant Superintendent for Student Services. She can be reached at smithk@epcusd401.org.


2020-21 School Fees 


Enrollment in District 401 requires the payment of school fees. The amount for each school is set by the D401 Board of Education. 

School fees for the 2020-21 school year have been set as follows:

► Pre-Kindergarten: $3,000 (monthly payments available)
► Pre-Kindergarten (special ed): $50
► Kindergarten Half Day: $170
► Kindergarten Full Day-Grade 8 (John Mills, Elmwood, Elm): $200
► Elmwood Park High School: $350
► Co-op/Alternative School: $50

Other fees for the 2020-21 school year include but are not limited to the following:

► EPHS Senior Graduation Fee: $60
(This fee is not eligible to be waived; the graduation fee is preloaded to your student's webstore account)

► EPHS Advanced Placement Test Fee: $85 each
(This is only for students enrolled in AP classes; fees will be loaded into student accounts over winter break)

► Driver's Education Fee: $275
(This is for sophomore Behind-the-Wheel)

Families are expected to pay their fees unless a fee waiver is obtained. Please note that preschool tuition cannot be waived, although monthly payments can be made.

A $30 fee and loss of check-writing privileges will be assessed for all returned checks.
