Even though their two-week winter break had already begun, plenty of John Mills Elementary students showed up at school on Monday, Dec. 21. The reason? Santa came to town — and not just once, but twice! For photos of both visits, please scroll down to our gallery.

In the morning, Santa received a festive holiday welcome from Principal Frank Kuzniewski, Assistant Principal Alexandra Oreluk and a crew of John Mills volunteers. Although Santa's first visit was only scheduled to last for two hours, he worked overtime greeting and speaking with dozens of children, who brought letters they had written just for him.

After taking a mid-day break, Santa returned later in the afternoon. But this time he wasn't alone. He brought several of his own helpers, including elves, Frosty the Snowman and even the Grinch. The entire crew drove up in the Santa Express, a sleek motorcoach that carried not only passengers but a generous helping of gifts courtesy of Toys for Tots.

In keeping with COVID-19 precautions, both of Santa's visits took place outdoors. His helpers as well as guests wore masks, and everyone observed proper social distancing. Thank you, Santa, for making the trip (twice!), and thank you to everyone who dropped by. Cheers!
