The District 401 Board of Education approved an amended 2020-21 school year calendar April 15 at its regular monthly meeting. The new calendar pushes the start date for students back to Monday, Aug. 31, from the original date of Wednesday, Aug. 12.

The amended school year calendar was done in order to accommodate current and potential challenges in completing the capital improvement project at Elm Middle School and others throughout the District.

This change also allows the District additional time operationally to conclude this school year and prepare for next.

When looking at the new school calendar, all of the previously scheduled breaks and early release days are still there, but the student start and end dates are different.

The District will also pursue an E-Learning Plan so school can be in session during emergency days related to snow and cold weather to help ensure students are dismissed no later than Wednesday, June 9, 2021.

Also at the April 15 session, the Board approved a Chromebook leasing agreement to see that the District meets its goal in providing each student in grades K-12 a device to take home.

In addition, the District hopes to share information related to the K-8 Summer Learning Academy soon but is waiting for official guidance from the Governor's Office and the Illinois State Board of Education.

The District has prepared for face-to-face instruction, a later start and end date, and remote learning for the Summer Learning Academy and is confident some sort of an opportunity can and will be provided to students.
