Asbestos Abatement Work to Begin at Mills, Elmwood on March 28

Asbestos abatement projects will begin at both Elmwood Elementary School and John Mills Elementary School on Monday, March 28, 2022.

Notification letters were sent to Elmwood and John Mills families on March 7 (see below for copies).

The letters were also posted on the District, Elmwood and John Mills websites.

Elmwood Asbestos Abatement Project


Beginning on Monday, March 28, 2022, EHS Industries, Inc., an asbestos abatement contractor licensed by the Illinois Department of Public Health, will conduct an asbestos abatement project at Elmwood Elementary School. The project includes the removal of asbestos containing transite from a soffit on the outside of the school.

Elmwood Park School District 401 has retained an independent third party environmental consulting firm, TRC Environmental Corporation, to provide oversight for the project to ensure that the work is performed in accordance with applicable rules and regulations. A representative of TRC will be onsite full time monitoring the asbestos contractor's removal operation.

During the removal process, procedures outlined by the Illinois Department of Public Health, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, and Environmental Protection Agency will be followed. Throughout the abatement project, the area to be abated will be cordoned off from the remainder of the building.

John Mills Asbestos Abatement Project

The project includes the removal of asbestos containing pipe insulation in the basement boiler room.

A representative of TRC will be onsite full time monitoring the asbestos contractor's removal operation.
