To Students, Staff, Parents and Community Stakeholders,
Today at 10 a.m., there was a nationwide walkout to memorialize those lost due to the horrific events that occurred at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School weeks ago and to voice concerns over gun laws and school safety. The walkout lasted 17 minutes, one minute for each victim of Stoneman Douglas.
Students at both Elm Middle School and Elmwood Park High School coordinated the walkout and activities to occur within the 17-minute window. The administration of each building, in conjunction with the Elmwood Park and River Grove Police Departments, provided supervision to ensure their safety during this time. The other buildings, due to their grade levels, participated in activities that ranged from a moment of silence to how to help and treat one another with respect and civility.
The District believes in providing students the opportunity to voice their opinions and for all to consistently engage in healthy dialogue about school safety and variables that could potentially impair such efforts.
Should you have questions or concerns, please contact me at email@example.com or 708-583-5831.
Dr. Nicolas Wade
Superintendent of Schools
