Re: Commencement 2020

We hope this finds you and your families healthy. Below you will find the outline for Elm Middle School’s 8th-Grade Commencement Ceremony, which will be held on Saturday June 13, 2020. The event will take place at Elmwood Park High School.

With the safety of everyone being our No. 1 priority, all families will arrive by car and remain in their vehicles throughout the entire ceremony. Only when a student's name is called to be recognized will the student exit their vehicle for a photo with their diploma.

Please arrive during your designated time only, which is determined by your student's last name. Please see below for ceremony times as well as ceremony procedures.

Schedule for June 13, 2020

  • Last Names A through F — 9 to 11 a.m.
  • Last Names G through M — 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Last Names N through Z — 1 to 3 p.m.

All cars will enter through the east entrance closest to the tennis courts and proceed to the rear parking lot of EPHS.

All cars will exit through the west exit of the rear parking lot of EPHS.

Ceremony Procedures

  • Each graduate is allowed one car into the ceremony.
  • Please bring your student's diploma and graduation program that were given to you at pick-up/drop-off on Wednesday, May 27.
  • We will live stream the ceremony.
  • We will broadcast pre-recorded speeches, and students will have their names called to be recognized.
  • When a student's name is called, their family's car will drive to the Elm Middle School backdrop. Only the student will exit the car to have their photo taken with their diploma by a District staff member.
  • After their photo is taken, the student re-enters the car, and the car will return to their parking space.
  • We encourage all families to decorate their cars. However, please refrain from balloons as they will obstruct the view of cars parked behind you.

Alternative Procedures in the Event of Bad Weather

  • In case of inclement weather, we have an alternative plan where the students are dropped off outside the EPHS auditorium, and they individually come into the building to walk across the graduation stage set up in the auditorium.
  • Students will then leave the auditorium and exit the building.
  • We will live stream the ceremony.

A Final Thanks to Our Elm Graduates and Families

We're very excited to celebrate our 2020 graduates! We look forward to seeing everyone, and we can't thank you enough for your cooperation and understanding to make this a memorable event for all our Elm Middle School families.
