Elmwood Park High School's Harold Grothen Chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS) welcomed 32 new members during an induction ceremony held Wednesday, April 27, in the school auditorium.

The four seniors offered remarks on the core NHS values of scholarship (Shipinski), service (Morales), leadership (Mendoza) and character (Olson).

NHS is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to recognize those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service and character.

These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since its beginning in 1921.

The EPHS chapter is named after Mr. Harold Grothen, who was a German teacher at the high school in the 1960s and early 1970s.
