Annual Winter Concerts Showcase Talent Across District 401!

The 2024 Winter Concert season was a successful display of all the musical talent of District 401! Continue reading to hear about each school's highlights, and be sure to check out each concert's photo gallery to spot your student in action!

The 2024 holiday concert season began Tuesday, Dec. 10, with an evening of amazing performances by the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Elm Middle School bands! The show took place at Elmwood Park High School under the direction of Mr. Stephen Hawk. 

The concert featured holiday favorites, some with a twist, such as James Bond themes mixed in with holiday tunes.

A day after the Elm Middle School bands kicked off the winter concert season, the Elm choirs took the stage to display their musical talents! Under the direction of Mr. Michael Popplewell, the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade choirs performed on Wednesday, Dec. 11, at Elmwood Park High School.

The show included holiday numbers that the students performed as a mixed choir featuring all three grades, as well as songs performed by the individual grade-level choirs.

District 401's 2024 winter concert season continued Wednesday, Dec. 11, with a bravura performance by the John Mills Choir!

Directed by Ms. Sarah Altshuler Jedwabnik and assisted by Ms. Ann Udell, the singers performed five pieces: Winter Bound, Please Pass the Pie, Winter Dream, Sleigh Ride, and Yo Vivo Cantando. John Mills alum and current Elm Middle School 6th grader Molly Shanahan returned to accompany Winter Dream on violin.

The second round of winter concerts at John Mills took place on Thursday, Dec. 12. Both the 1st and 2nd grade choirs gave performances directed by music teacher Sarah Altshuler Jedwabnik. Students sang about snowy nights, played the part of talking animals, tried their hand at musical instruments, celebrated the festive holiday spirit — and even danced a little!

EPHS Concert Band

A wonderful week for holiday music lovers in District 401 was punctuated with an exclamation point on Thursday, Dec. 12, as the Elmwood Park High School Choir Program gave their winter performance. 

Directed by Mr. Grant McEachern, the show featured performances by the EPHS Chorale, Concert Choir, and Swing Choir. Highlights included a solo by Concert Choir member Amanda Camacho and a duet by Swing Choir members Domenicia McDaniel and Izabella Weiss.

The concert ended with the Tiger tradition of inviting former EPHS choir members to come up on stage and join in the singing of Silent Night in English and German.

The following week, the EPHS Band Winter Concert took place on Tuesday, Dec. 17, in the high school auditorium. The show featured performances by the EPHS Jazz Band and the EPHS Concert Band, both directed by Mr. Kyle Rhoades.

The final day of District 401’s 2024 winter concert season was Wednesday, Dec. 18, when Elmwood Elementary School put on not one, not two, but three musical shows for the enjoyment of Panthers of all ages, all directed by Ms. Meredith Dabbs! 

The school’s 1st and 2nd grades each performed the holiday show Swingin’ in a Holiday Mood!
Students sang The Wonderful Wonders of Winter, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Blitzen’s Boogie, Believe, and Swingin’ in a Holiday Mood! to the delight of Panther families and friends.

For the Elmwood Elementary Choir performance, Ms. Dabbs was joined by Mr. Grant McEachern, Elmwood Park High School’s choir director, who provided piano accompaniment. The choir members began with a rendition of Dum Spiro Spero, which featured EPHS students Bella Weiss and Natalia Galinska on flute. They continued with Midwinter Snow and concluded with Cold Snap.
