EPHS Theatre Brings Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream to Life

EPHS Theatre Brings Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream to Life

On Friday, October 24, the Elmwood Park High School Theatre will open its fall play, William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. One of his most beloved comedies, the play intertwines love, magic, and mischief in a whimsical world where fairies meddle in the affairs of humans — with hilarious results.

The production features a talented cast and crew of EPHS students, who have worked very hard to bring Shakespeare’s words to life on stage. Under the direction of longtime Theatre Director Noah Pligge, students have spent months diving into the story’s timeless humor and charm. “This show is so kooky, and so funny, and I thought bringing an old story to this group of high schoolers would be a lot of fun,” Pligge says.

With its mix of enchanted forests, royal drama, and mischievous fairies, the show offers something for everyone. Senior Eric Cardona, who plays Demetrius — one of the Athenian lovers caught in a complicated love triangle (or square!) — says the experience has been rewarding. “There is a lot of humor and a really great storyline,” Cardona says. “Putting expressions behind the words that Shakespeare has written is very magical.”

The production also showcases the efforts of a large behind-the-scenes team, including the build crew, run crew, and technical staff, who have created sets, costumes, and effects that have truly brought Shakespeare’s world to life.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream will be performed in the EPHS auditorium on Friday, October 24th at 7:00 PM, and Saturday, October 25th at 2:00 and 7:00 PM. Tickets are $5 for the general public, and free for EP students, staff, and seniors.
