First Day Fun at District 401

Wednesday, Aug. 19, marked the first day of school for all four buildings in District 401! Across the district, students arrived with smiles, excitement, and plenty of anticipation for the year ahead. The day brought beautiful weather, heartfelt reunions, and plenty of positive energy as students settled into their new classrooms and schedules.

At John Mills Elementary, teachers kicked off the year in style, wearing matching shirts featuring the school’s theme: “Do Better, Be Better, Aim Higher.” Students also participated in fun “get to know you” activities with their teachers and classmates.

Over at Elmwood Elementary, our youngest learners were already looking forward to their next day of school. Kindergarteners were heard asking if they could come back the next day, begging for more time in Ms. Ferrusquia’s classroom!

At Elm Middle School, the energy was electric from the start. Students gathered outside, quickly finding friends and reconnecting with classmates they hadn’t seen all summer. There was plenty of laughter and conversation as students caught up. Students were also found checking their schedules, posing for pictures, and showing off new outfits. Throughout the day, students got back into their rhythm and prepared for what the school year had in store!

At Elmwood Park High School, the first-day excitement started in the parking lot, where cars were decorated to celebrate the Class of 2027 seniors. Campus Monitor Belinda Jones and Social Studies Curriculum Chair & Teacher Nora O’Mahoney greeted students as they arrived. Students at both Elm and EPHS were also able to grab breakfast, giving them extra time to connect with friends. Once in their classrooms, students got right into icebreakers and fun activities to connect with their classmates and teachers.

From excited kindergarteners to seniors celebrating the start of their final years, the first day brought plenty of memorable moments across District 401.
