Student voting registration event to be held at EPHS

Any student who is a U.S. citizen and will be 18 years old by Nov. 5, 2024, is eligible to vote in this year’s general election. If you meet these requirements and are not registered to vote, stop by the cap and gown pickup on Wednesday, May 22. 

“The social studies teacher in me wants to increase civic engagement,” said Social Studies Teacher Nora O’Mahoney. “The teacher in me wants to make sure the kids understand the relationship between what we learn in school and how it transfers to life on the outside.” 

This is a big election year as presidential and Congressional candidates will be on the ballots. If you are able to vote, do it to make sure your voice is heard. 

“You have the power to vote and you can help vote for people who don’t have that power,” said O’Mahoney.

Registering is quick and easy. For the most streamlined experience, please bring two of the following items when you come to register:

• Your Illinois Driver’s License or State ID with your current address
• The last four digits of your social security number, and/or another ID

Permitted IDs include:

• Illinois Driver’s License or State ID
• Social Security card
• Employee or school ID
• Credit card
• Public aid card
• Valid US passport
• Birth certificate
• School transcript
• Utility bill issued to you (not your parents)
• Mail postmarked and addressed to you at your current address

Credit cards, bank statements or bills stored on an electronic device are acceptable.

Students who are naturalized citizens should also bring the court and its location (city/state) where the student was naturalized and the date of naturalization. Students who do not have this information when registering will need to provide a phone number so the County office can contact them prior to processing their registration. If you forget your IDs but still want to register, come over to the registration anyway; volunteers can give you the tools you need to register at home. If you are already registered, amplify your vote by getting your friends to register. Now is the time for everyone to be “Vote Ready!”
